Over the last few months, we have been hard at work to ensure the facility is safe when you visit us.
Take a look at the short film below to see what changes we've made and how they affect your visit:

Frequently Asked Questions

Do customers have to wear a face mask when in the facility?

It is mandatory to wear a face mask in any part of the building apart from the
Swimming Pool and when working out in the Fitness Suite.

What measures do you have in place to keep customers safe?

All sessions need to be pre-booked in advance. This will help us with our track
and trace system. Mandatory face coverings throughout the building and temperature checks on
arrival. We have also introduced a one-way system and extra cleaning measures to
ensure all of our customers are safe.

How long will the sessions last?

All Swimming sessions will be for 45mins and Fitness Sessions will last for
50mins. This will leave enough time for our staff to ensure that all touch points are
cleaned in between each session. Please arrive on time as latecomers will not be allowed into the session.

Can customers book a double session in either the Swimming Pool or the
Fitness Suite?

No, after each session we have to sanitise everything down before the next
session. Customers will have to rebook for the next session available.

How many customers are allowed in the Fitness Suite?

A maximum of 8 customers can attend a booked 50 minute session. Customers
WILL NOT have access to the changing rooms or showers so should come Gym
ready and leave immediately via the main doors.

How will customers know where to go and what to do?

The Trust is producing a video showing customers what to do on arrival and
where to go. Extensive signage around the facility shows the simple One Way system that is in
place. There will also be extra staff and volunteers on arrival to help customers with the
new procedures.

Will the toilets at Reception be available to use?

Yes, they will be made available to any customers, staff or volunteers. They will
be regularly cleaned, sanitised throughout the day. Hand sanitising equipment
will be readily available for all to use.

No, we are asking our customers to come beach ready. This means with your
swimming costume on underneath your clothes.
You will enter poolside from the internal gate on the ramp. You will then be
issued a tub to keep your belongings in.
You will then be directed to a socially distanced area on poolside to leave your
belongings and enter the water.
After your session you can then use the changing rooms but there will be No
Showers available.

A strong belief that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy sport has led to one Tadcaster Grammar school student to follow her dream.

With determination and a passion to help others, 15 year old Jemima Browning has started Stingrays at Tadcaster Swimming Pool, a new swimming squad for young people with disabilities. What grew from a seed of thought is now a reality for the Year 10 student and her 13 year old brother Will who has Down's Syndrome and also attends Tadcaster Grammar school. "I have always loved swimming and strongly believe that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy sport," said Jemima. "I have a brother with Down's Syndrome, who is developing his swimming skills and hoping to compete in the future". "He has enriched my life and taught me so much about what it means to be disabled and we should never put limits on what we think individuals can achieve".

Jemima has been swimming all her life and been a member of Tadcaster Swim Squad for five years. She competes at a local, county and regional competitions and volunteers as an in-pool assistant during swimming lessons at Tadcaster Swimming Pool. "Some time ago, I approached Fiona Garnett, the Swimming Development Manager at Tadcaster Pool and asked her about starting up a swimming squad for young people with disabilities, something I have always had a passion to do", said Jemima. "Fiona felt similarly and we have worked together on this project" she added. "I decided on a name and designed a logo for the Squad, and although we have had to go through a long process to secure funding, obtain backing from North Yorkshire Sport and find a qualified coach. Tadcaster Stingrays started four weeks ago and we have now been recognised by the ASA North East and feature on their website".

Fiona Garnett has nothing but praise for Jemima's efforts and said: "For many months Jemima has helped with our Junior Fit Club for older children and has pestered in a very nice way to start a more advanced group for children with disabilities, in the hope that we can eventually form a competitive club for these children. She is so enthusiastic and has gone that extra mile to encourage new members".

Tadcaster Stringrays is open to young people aged between 11 and 18 with learning and physical disabilities who can already swim unaided without armbands for at least 25 metres. Jemima explained that the club is all about inclusion and promoting sport for all. It is an opportunity for the young people to gain a sense of belongiong and to be proud members of a group.

"I see this as extremely important, as some people with a disability can feel so isoalated and different", said Jemima. "I want to stop every child or young person feeling this way, whilst keeping fit and having fun swimming, " she added. "As a group we pride ourselves on training together as a team.

The session runs on a Wednesday evening from 6.30pm - 7.30pm and costs £3 per session. Anyone who is interested should contact Kate O'Brien on 01937 833001 or ko'brien@tadcasterpool.org.uk

The Teaching Pool has now re-opened after an 11 week closure

On the 23rd March a section of floor tiles in the Teaching Pool lifted and the pool was closed for an investigation. A structural engineer completed a report which linked the tile failure to the flooding that had occured in December 2015.

A contractor was appointed then the pool floor tiles were completley removed and replaced with new tiles. The pool tank was then regrouted, resealed and left to dry.

The filling process started on Tuesday 31st May and was completed on Sunday 5th June, with the pool water filtered and up to the normal temperature of 30c. The Teaching Pool timetable has returned to normal with all of the regualr activities taking place.

All L1 & L2 Swimming Lessons will be relocated back into the Teaching Pool and after the success and feedback from the L3 classes they will continue to remain in the main pool.

All of the staff and volunteers would like to thank our customers for their patience and look forward to seeing them in the water soon.

The Trust is different in the way it operates as it receives no ongoing funding or grants and uses volunteers to operate the service. Currently we have 130 volunteers supported by 14 full-time salaried employees.

The Trust has been extremely successful and has won numerous awards such as ASA Swim 21, Duke of York award and recognition for Lighting and Design.

On 10th December 2014 the Trust will be celebrating its 20th Birthday and as part of the celebrations we are hosting a 45min showcase event at 2pm. There will then be refreshments served after and a chance to network with invited guests.
