Swim Squad is a family friendly swimming club for local young people up to the age of 18.
The Squad places equal emphasis on swimming for fitness, recreation and competition and provides a challenging but enjoyable training programme.

Lower Wharfe Canoe Club
Sundays: 6.30pm - 8.30pm
Lower Wharfe Canoe Club is a family orientated club that has been running for 11 years, with a base at Tadcaster Community Swimming Pool, and Bishopthorpe on the River Ouse. We host a large number of families who enjoy the sport of canoeing and kayaking, and have a wide range of members aged eight to nearly eighty!
We are a friendly, welcoming club that run many water an non water based events that are well attended.
The club has a large number of both adults and children who enjoy the sport and develop their skills onto faster moving water, an into high level competitions through the slalom section, with o most successful paddlers going on to compete for Great Britain at international events - 2012 here we come!
The club is open to all abilities (as long as you can swim 25m) and it is a great place to come along and have a go at a new activity.
River Trips
Our club run river trips that are suitable for absolute beginners to advanced white water kayakers.
Same of these trips include the River Ouse through York; the River Derwent at Howsham Weir and the River Ure from Mickley to Sleningford, which is a moving, water trip.
More advanced trips include the River Wharfe, Linton Locks on the River Ouse, the River Lune and many more. There is also a touring section of the club that run trips o the Lake District and Wales for longer paddles.
In addition, we have a very successful slalom section that enters competitions thought-out Great Britain and train once a week in York.
Thursday Nights
Thursday night’s paddles commence in May and continue until the end of August from 6.45 to approximately 8.30pm. This is the time when the skills learnt in the pool can be put into practice on the River Ouse at Bishopthorpe in York. This is the base for the clubs river trips and the area where equipment is issued.
Trips can go up or down the river for approximately 2miles and the long distance group go further up the river for approximately 5miles. Fun games such as polo* and raft games are played on a Thursday night and star testing can also be done during these sessions to gain skill proficiency awards.
This is followed by a trip to the local pub where many people go for a chat an a sandwich after the nights fun!
* New for 2008/09 a canoe polo section is being developed, to train and compete in the regional league.
Sunday Nights
Pool sessions take place on Sunday evenings from 6.30 - 8.30pm consisting of three 40 minute sessions. The cost is £3.50 for member and £4.50 for non-members*.
The sessions run from September until May, all-new paddlers must undertake a safety test.
This ensures the paddlers' understanding of pool procedures a canoe safety, for example capsizing and entering or exiting the pool safely. These sessions are informal with instructors available.
Paddlers are encouraged to develop at their own pace and ask for instructors as required when their confidence and abilities develop. Our main aim is for you to have fun and enjoy your canoeing safely.

Willing and Able
Wednesdays: 8.00pm - 9.00pm
The session has two dozen disabled swimmers that regularly attend. Sessions consist of developing swimming skills and also canoeing. For more information please contact reception.
Scuba Diving Club
Tuesdays: 9.00pm - 10.00pm
The club meets on Tuesdays with qualified instructors. Please book via Appleton Roebuck Diving College on 01904 744424.
