Dragon Boat Race 2011
Tadcaster Community Swimming Pool took part in the York Dragon Boat Race on the 10th July.
The team dressed up as lifeguards, won their three races to get through to the final and managed to win the fastest charity trophy.
The team was made up of 20 volunteers, trustees and staff members all had a great day and hope to take part again next year.
The York event saw 36 teams compete over a 250-metre stretch of the River Ouse between the Scarborough and Lendal Bridges. Each team participated in three preliminary rounds before the fastest eight teams entered the Grand Final. This year’s overall winners were local electrical firm Herbert Todd & Son.
The annual race is organised by the Rotary Club of York and the total raised for charity this year is expected to be in excess of £64,500. Tadcaster Swimming Pool are raising money for the pool and York Against cancer and have so far raised over £1,500.
Tadcaster Triathlon 2011
On the 2nd May 2011 the popular Tadcaster Triathlon makes its return. Last year was a fantastic success with more than 200 applicants and we hope for even more this time around!
Run on exactly the same course as in previous years, the course consists of 500 metres in the pool, a 14km bike ride and a 7km run. The bike takes a rural route towards the villages of Boston Spa and Bramham before returning to Tadcaster. The run follows the road to Newton Kyme along a tarmac path by the road where it turns back towards Tadcaster on an unsurfaced footpath along the river bank.
This is an ideal race for beginners looking for a short distance race without the extra challenge of open water, or experienced triathletes who are looking for an early season warm up event.
We are happy to announce there are 20 free fundraising opportunities. Anyone wishing to race and raise funds for Tadcaster Swimming Pool Trust would be expected to raise a minimum £100.
If you would like more information on the race please visit www.pdsportsmanagement.co.uk/events_tadcaster. Or if you may be interested in a fundraising place please contact Chris Porter on 01937 833001 or via e mail to chris@tadcasterpool.org.uk.
